In a state best known for romantic palm-laden beaches, grass skirts, and hula dancing, the Lana`i Animal Rescue Center (LARC) has become a delightfully surprising tourist destination. Currently ranked as a top island attraction on Tripadvisor, LARC is an outdoor paradise where homeless cats are doted on by volunteers and visitors alike. LARC has partnered with Four Seasons Resorts, Lana`i to offer “Pet and Purr” voluntourism opportunities to animal-loving guests from around the world — some visitors even choose the island Lana’i as their vacation destination just so they can visit Lanai’s “little lions.”
We have a Pet-n-Purr Open House every Sunday between 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. where everyone is welcome. If you are visiting our island during the week and would like to schedule a private visitation, or adopt one of our wonderful Lanaian Lions, please call us! Our Kitty Concierge would be more than happy to assist you! You can find our contact information on the CONTACT US page.
We are located on Kaunolu rd. It is the second dirt road after the airport, on Kaumalapau HWY. Turn left on Kaunolu rd (you will see “KAUNOLU” engraved on a big boulder, and a smaller rock on top that says “LARC”). You will immediately come upon the Sanctuary on your right. Enjoy, we look forward to seeing you!

Such a wonderful place. As the mother of six cats, I appreciate all the work you must do. I have posted this on my facebook site.
I did too =) We have 10 rescue kitties…..who rescued who is the question =) It’s hard work to be constantly cleaning but it’s rewarding <3
Thank you both very much for helping spread the word by posting our site on your pages! What wonderful, rewarding things you are doing by rescuing kitties… or allowing them to rescue us!
i’ve been volunteering for cat rescues for years but never saw a physical haven as wonderful as yours. i foster newborns without moms and have 6 kitties of my own in addition to several ferals and strays who have found a home here. bless you for your work . i am amazed at the sociability of your cats. just goes to show the time you put into their socialization and the love you give. keep up the great work.
Aloha Diane!
Thank you for the kind words! It is so encouraging to our team! Keep up the amazing work you are doing with those newborns! Give them all a kiss and a snuggle for us- there’s nothing quite like a newborn kitten!
